Description

This session focuses on some of the ethical intersections in antitrafficking work. Learners explore instances that may involve certain ethical dilemmas in working with survivors of trafficking.

Objectives

  1. The learner will be able to identify the similarities and differences between laws, ethics, and morals as they relate to decision-making in professional settings where trafficking survivors are served.
  2. The learner will compare and contrast historical models for therapy/service delivery versus current real-world models for survivors, focusing on dynamics of power, control, and communication.
  3. The learner will apply discipline-specific ethical knowledge to real-world clinical/case examples to explore common areas of ethical dilemma (e.g., managing dual roles, avoiding re-exploitation of survivors, understanding transference/countertransference/triggers in a therapeutic setting, building collaboration and shared power).
